About this place
An inch across, 2,705 feet out — just past half a mile. Mars is the end of the easy part. All four rocky planets fit inside that half mile; Jupiter alone is another mile and a quarter beyond it.

You are crossing the asteroid belt for all of it: a mile and a quarter of this walk is the gap between Mars and Jupiter, and there is nothing in it. That emptiness is the most astronomically honest stretch of the day.
